Shawn & Katie with fish from trip.
|
Shawn & Katie went deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, out of Dauphin Island (just south of Mobile, AL) on Saturday, June 18th, 2005. Shawn’s Uncle Danny was the captain, and they went out in Uncle Danny’s boat with Shawn’s brother, Brian, Brian’s wife, Tracy, Brian & Tracy’s son, Shawn Walter, and their cousin, Michael Jolly.
They began with trolling a few miles from the shoreline and found a school of Spanish Mackerel. They were able to catch four Spanish in the school, and one Bonita. Then they headed further out to some deep water wrecks/reefs to find bigger fish. Around the reefs they caught lots of Red Snapper, Grouper, and Trigger fish, but were only able to keep five of the Red Snapper due to size limits. The picture shows Shawn & Katie with the fish they were able to keep from the trip.
Danny, Brian, and Tracy were fishing in a tournament through Tracy’s work. Shawn Walter and Michael were also registered in the kid’s tournament, so as Uncle Danny captained the boat, Brian and Shawn would hook up the fish and let the kids/girls reel them in (if they weren’t too big). Only two big one’s got away during the trip. Overall, the trip was a great time, and reminded Shawn of a lot of good memories growing up on the Gulf Coast, going fishing with his Dad, which was appropriate since Shawn & Katie celebrated Father’s Day with Shawn’s dad on the following day.
